    Michael Garmisa
    Founder & President

    Michael Garmisa is the Founder and President of SearchOne Advisors. In 1998, Michael launched one of the first search firms to focus exclusively on the alternative asset industry. Across decades, he has built a recruiting firm and advisory that executes projects from junior- to senior-level talent for leading hedge funds, long-only funds, venture capital firms, private equity firms, and family offices.

    Michael’s intuitive pattern recognition and deep understanding of the market coupled with his integrity, diligence, commitment to transparency, and a keen ability to identify talent has led SearchOne to achieve an industry-high level of success in the placement of exceptional candidates. As a result, Michael is regarded as a trusted advisor to some of the world’s top alternative-asset firms.

    Michael’s leadership at SearchOne fosters an entrepreneurial yet highly collaborative approach to helping top alternative asset firms with targeted placement and team build-outs. For every search, he engages his entire team’s collective experience, tapping into SearchOne’s resourcefulness as well as his own enduring relationships to match highly talented candidates with prominent companies in order to achieve lasting and impactful results.     Michael graduated from Indiana University and currently lives on Long Island with his wife and three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and watching the Chicago Bears.

    Jared Breakstone

    Jared Breakstone is a recruiter at SearchOne. He earned his BBA from the University of Michigan in 2021 and joined RSM US shortly thereafter where he spent two years focused on transaction advisory services. An entrepreneurial mindset coupled with a passion for building direct meaningful relationships, Jared joined SearchOne in Summer 2023 to focus on hedge fund, private equity, and family office recruiting at the pre-MBA level. In his free time, Jared enjoys soccer, golf, traveling, and rooting for the Michigan Wolverines.

    Scott Chapin

    Scott Chapin began his career as an investment banking analyst in the leveraged finance group at Bank of America. Since joining SearchOne in 2019, Scott has focused on pre-MBA recruiting for private equity firms, hedge funds, and family offices. He enjoys working closely with candidates and helping them strategize their careers for the long term.

    Scott grew up in Manhattan, attending the city’s Collegiate High School. He graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in government and lives in New York City.

    Maddie Koterba

    Maddie Koterba joined SearchOne in 2019. As Administrative Manager, she works with the pre-MBA team assisting in both research and administrative tasks. She earned her B.S. in Business Management from Stockton University in 2017. A New Jersey native and proud vegan, when she’s not working, you can find her in the kitchen, in the gym or with her family.

    Jim MacLeod

    Jim MacLeod is a Managing Director and joined SearchOne in 2001. Since then, he has worked on all aspects of the business, placing pre-MBA through senior-level candidates. His ability to recognize talent makes him invaluable to SearchOne’s clients.

    Jim takes a long-term view. Having met thousands of junior-level candidates at the start of their careers, he has watched early entrants to the alternative asset sector grow and evolve into leaders. He believes deeply that any financial services business is only as good as its employees, and thus aims to match candidates at firms where they can thrive for years and even decades.

    Jim studied economics at the College of the Holy Cross where was a member of the Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team. He currently lives on Long Island with his wife and four sons. He enjoys watching his boys play soccer and is an avid golfer.

    Michael Mackey

    Michael Mackey is a Managing Director at SearchOne. Prior to joining in 2024, Michael had a 24-year career in hedge funds, the final 17 as a partner and Chief Investment Officer at Kingdon Capital Management LLC. He worked with analysts and portfolio managers to right-size positions, as well as analyzing firm and manager performance to determine the best risk-adjusted returns, alpha creation and portfolio convexity. Over the past four years, Michael has been the Chief Business Officer of an SBJ-award winning fan engagement technology platform. Michael's responsibilities included helping shape the strategy and direction of the company, notably structuring long-term licensing deals and minority equity stakes taken by both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB), as well as the completion of an institutional Series A.

    Philanthropically, Michael is on the National Advisory Board of the University of Michigan Depression Center, the Dean’s Advisory Council of the University of Michigan School of Education, the Athletes Connected Research Advisory Board of the University of Michigan Athletic Department and an Intermittent Lecturer at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

    Michael holds a B.B.A in Finance and Accounting from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant.

    Lane Merlo

    Lane Merlo is a Managing Director at SearchOne. She began her career as an investment banking analyst in the leveraged finance group at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in Atlanta. She moved to New York to join SearchOne, enticed by the firm’s collaborative and thoughtful culture. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native focuses on pre-MBA and mid level recruiting.

    Lane graduated cum laude from Washington & Lee University with a major in accounting and business administration and a minor in mathematics. She lives in New York City.

    Matthew Moore

    Matthew Moore is a Managing Director at SearchOne. He joined the firm after starting his career as an investment banking analyst at Robert W. Baird. During his tenure at SearchOne, Matthew has focused on filling pre-MBA and mid-level roles within the alternative asset space.

    The Virginia native is deeply committed to helping candidates make informed decisions. He is often the voice of reason in an industry that can be cluttered with misinformation and false promises and maintains strong relationships with those he’s placed years after their initial recruitment.

    Matthew graduated summa cum laude from Hampden-Sydney College, where he played soccer and ran cross country, and went on to receive a Masters in Commerce from the University of Virginia. He enjoys cooking and cheering for Manchester United. He lives in New York City.

    Theresa Petrucci

    Theresa Petrucci is Chief Administrative Officer at SearchOne. She joined the firm in 2013 and is responsible for the daily oversight of business operations, from client/candidate correspondence to database management. She also leads the firms Administrative Recruiting effort. Prior to joining SearchOne, Theresa spent seven years in the fashion industry.

    Originally from New Canaan, Connecticut, Theresa attended Widener University where she studied English. When she is not making sure everything is running smoothly for SearchOne, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, the beach, and traveling.

    Meridith Piper

    Meridith Piper joined SearchOne in 2021 as lead for the firm’s research department. She brings nearly 15 years of dedicated financial services experience with her. Meridith began her career in the Capital Market Intelligence group at Thomson Financial. She earned her B.A. in Economics from Tufts University.

    Born in Washington, D.C, growing up in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Sao Paulo, Meridith has called Brooklyn her home for the last 21 years. When she is not busy at SearchOne, she enjoys traveling, boxing, brunching and art museums. Meridith considers herself a true “Brooklynite” with a wife and two cats, Sophie and Albus.

    Sophie Proctor

    Sophie Proctor joined SearchOne in 2024 to assist the pre-MBA team. Originally from Wayne, Pennsylvania, Sophie moved to New York City following her graduation from the University of Notre Dame where she earned her B.A. in Business Administration and was a member of the women’s lacrosse team.

    Michael Riccardelli

    Michael Riccardelli joined SearchOne in April 2022 as part of the administrative services and research team. Prior to making the switch into finance, he spent the last 11 years dedicated to the healthcare services industry. Originally from New Canaan, CT, but trickling down the east coast towards warmer weather over the years, Michael spent 4 years in Baltimore before making the final move to south Florida where he currently resides with his wife and dog, Raven. You can find him at the beach or on a boat on the weekends.

    Tinsley Ullrich

    Tinsley Ullrich began her career as an investment banking analyst in the healthcare group at Deutsche Bank. She joined SearchOne to focus on hedge fund, private equity and family office recruiting at the pre-MBA level.

    Rachel Wilson

    Rachel Wilson joined SearchOne in 2024 to focus on mid-level and senior-level buy-side opportunities across both public and private markets. Rachel earned her B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.
